Laois County Board delay Fennelly appointment
September 24, 2010
Laois County Board hurling committee chairman Kieran Delaney insists that there is no rush to appoint a successor to Niall Rigney as county hurling boss.
Kilkenny native Brendan Fennelly was reportedly on the verge of being appointed earlier this week but a meeting to supposedly ratify his candidacy was postponed.
And hurling committee chief Delaney admits that it may be weeks before an appointment is finalised, despite the fact that Laois have been seeking a new boss since Rigney departed following the All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Carlow in June.
Former Kilkenny star Adrian Ronan, ex-Galway manager Conor Hayes and former Tipperary ace Tommy Dunne have all been linked with the job.
Fennelly, who has county management experience with Carlow, guided Dunamaggin to Kilkenny junior, intermediate and honours in the past and was part of the backroom team of Waterford outfit De La Salle en route to the All-Ireland club final last year, was regarded as the front-runner but may now face a battle to land the job.
