Coghlan appeal upheld

Tipperary U21 manager Ken Hogan
Tipperary manager Ken Hogan must plan without full back John Coghlan for tomorrow night's Bord Gais Energy All-Ireland U21 HC final against Galway after he lost his appeal against a four-week suspension last night.

Coghlan, who has won Munster U21 hurling and football medals with Tipp this year, was handed the suspension after the CCCC upgraded the yellow card he received against Antrim in the semi-final last month to a red. This prompted the player to seek a hearing into the decision last night.

Tipperary county board secretary Tim Floyd accompanied Coghlan to last night's Croke Park hearing, which lasted for over two hours.

Coghlan's absence means Tipperary will be forced into at least one change when they select their team today.

Captain Pádraic Maher, who is was one of eight U21s to win All-Ireland senior medals last Sunday, could be asked to move from centre-back to full-back with Brendan Maher tipped to slot in at centre-back.
