Kearns rules out Limerick return

September 10, 2010

Liam Kearns
Liam Kearns has ruled out a return to the Limerick football manager's hot seat.

The Kerry native, who managed the Treaty County for six years between 1999 and 2005, has pulled out of the race to succeed Mickey Ned O'Sullivan. Kearns was one of six nominated for the position, but won't be allowing his name to go forward.

He said: "I have informed the Limerick county board of my decision. It wouldn't be the right move for Limerick football or me at the moment.

"It's my intention to return to inter-county management at some stage once all the circumstances are right".

Kearns, who also managed Laois for two years, had already declared his interest in the Galway vacancy before he was nominated for the Limerick post.

Interviews were due to start last night for the Limerick vacancy, with another Kerryman, former Clare manager John Kennedy, Drom-Broadford boss John Brudair, ex-Tipperary manager Tom McGlinchey, current Tipp selector John Cummins and this year's Limerick under 21 manager Maurice Horan, in contention for the job.
