Tyrone board supports Harte's proposals

The Tyrone county board will table a motion at next year's Congress calling for changes to the All-Ireland SFC structure.

Confirming that they will be supporting Mickey Harte's call for a second chance for provincial winners, Tyrone chairman Ciaran McLaughlin said: "From a county perspective, we support our manager, but at the same time, we decided that it was the fairest thing to do, and at this year's Congress, Dublin had a motion similar to ours.

"We put in a motion because we saw the benefit to the counties that had won provincial titles, that had treated it seriously, and weren't getting the second chance that everybody else has got.

"I would say that the press are reporting that the director-general of the GAA is indicating that the eight best teams rise to the top. If that's the case, that's fine, but I would also have to point out that, from the perspective of a provincial team, if you wants teams to treat the provincial championship seriously - and most teams do - then we have to give it equal standing, and make sure that we go out there and everybody is trying to win a provincial title, which we have done.
