Louth players appeal to the referee after Meath's Joe Sheridan scores the winning goal in the final minute of added time - INPHO
The GAA have this afternoon revealed that Leinster final match referee Martin Sludden has admitted he should not have awarded Meath's injury time goal but they cannot order a re-fixture.

The news comes after there were calls for the game against Louth to be replayed following the decision to award Meath a winning goal in added time, which replays showed should have been chalked off.

Joe Sheridan fell over the line with the ball which was a technical foul and a free out should have been awarded.

GAA President Christy Cooney said the association would await the referee's report before making a decision on the game and today Croke Park issued a statement confirming the final scoreline must stand.

"The GAA confirms that the Referee's Report has been received and the referee has stated that he made a mistake in awarding the Meath goal. However, under GAA Rules, a re-fixture cannot be ordered as the Referee's report of the full time score is final," said the Croke Park statement.

Additionally, the GAA has condemned the action of the small number of Louth fans who entered the pitch to confront the referee. Croke Park has said that the Gardai have been supplied with copies of the match video.

"The GAA condemns the actions of a small number of supporters who entered the pitch enclosure in an effort to remonstrate with the match referee Martin Sludden at the end of yesterday's Leinster Senior Football Final.

"An Garda Siochána has been provided with the television footage of the post match events and Croke Park post match security procedures will be reviewed in light of yesterday's unacceptable incidents."
