Former Tipp player Mick Cowan passes away

The death has taken place of Michael (Mick) Cowan of Moyne Templetuohy and Borris-Ileigh, a former Tipperary hurling captain.

Mick, who passed away on Monday May 17th, won All Ireland and Munster club senior hurling titles with Borris-Ileigh in the 1986/87 season. He won three county senior hurling titles with Borris-Ileigh in 1981, 1983 and 1986 and a county senior hurling title with his native Moyne Templetuohy in 1971. He won four North Tipperary senior hurling titles with Borris-Ileigh and two Mid Tipperary senior hurling titles with Moyne Templetuohy. He also won a county minor hurling title with Moyne Templetuohy in 1964. He represented Tipperary at minor, U21 and senior hurling and captained the Tipperary senior hurling team for the 1972 championship replay against Cork. He also represented Tipperary at minor, U21 and junior football.

Mick will be remembered as a very fine hurler and a man who always extended a warm welcome to all who called to Stapletons in Borrisoleigh.

His remains are reposing at his home at Main Street Borrisoleigh today Tuesday from 4pm and will arrive at the Sacred Heart Church Borrisoleigh tomorrow Wednesday for Requiem Mass at 11.30am followed by interment in St. Brigid's Cemetery.

Tipperary County Board extends its deepest sympathy to his wife Breed, his daughters Gina, Margaret, Marie, Joanne and Sarah, sons Aidan, Ciaran and Niall, his mother Johanna, his grandchildren, his brothers and sister and all his family and friends on their sad bereavement.
