NHL 2: Laois stay in promotion hunt

March 21, 2010
Laois made it three wins on the bounce in Division 2 of the NHL at the expense of a poor Westmeath outfit in O'Moore Park to maintain their promotion push.

Laois 4-14
Westmeath 0-13

Basement dwellers Westmeath, who had beaten Niall Rigney's charges by six points in the corresponding fixture last year, matched their opponents in most facets of the game in the second half, but were undone by the concession of three first half goals scored by Neil Foyle, Tommy Fitzgerald and Owen Houlihan. These scores gave Laois a 3-5 to 0-7 interval lead, despite having played against the wind.

Willie Hyland added a fourth goal for the hosts in the second half as Westmeath's misery was compounded by a straight red card for half-time substitute Tony Doyle with 17 minutes remaining.
