NHL 3A: Horan brace enough for Royals

March 21, 2010
Meath 2-18
Mayo 1-12

Two first-half goals from Nicky Horan proved the difference for Meath as they saw off Mayo at Pairc Tailteann to keep their promotion hopes in Division 3A firmly alive.

After last week's trouncing at the hands of Kerry, the hosts made sure to get themselves off to a flying start in this game by netting their first score in the opening minute when Horan steamed through and buried the ball past the Mayo goalkeeper.

The Westerners failed to recover and in the 23rd minute they suffered another massive blow when Horan fired in a stunning second goal to push the Royals towards a 2-7 to 0-4 lead at half-time.

The visitors did pull back a goal after the restart via David Dowling's fine effort, but Meath were always on top and with Stephen Clynch and Niall Hackett striking over the scores they finished comfortable winners.
