Leinster U21FC: Wicklow goals sink Longford

February 21, 2010
Wicklow 3-13
Longford 0-10

Wicklow will face Laois in the Cadbury Leinster U21FC quarter-final after they powered to a 12-point win over Longford in Arklow yesterday.

The visitors were architects of their own downfall with Wicklow's first two goals resulting from defensive errors. In the opening minute, Longford 'keeper Enda Lyons spilled possession and Shane Carthy was on hand to tap into the empty net.

Twenty minutes later, Wicklow capitalised on a poorly-taken free when full forward Peadar Burke intercepted before setting up Anthony McLoughlin for a second goal which gave the home side a 2-7 to 0-6 interval lead.

Dean Siney extended the Garden County's advantage with a point within seconds of the restart before McLoughlin grabbed his second major in the 40th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
