Heartache over for McDermott
07 December 2009Kilmurry-Ibickane manager Michael McDermott said yesterday's dramatic Munster club football final victory over Kerins O'Rahilly's atoned for the disappointment of last year's defeat at the same stage to Drom-Broadford.
"Last year, the heartache we had in that dressing-room coming off the field was tough. We were just delighted to get back out there and win," he said following the Clare side's 0-7 to 0-6 win at the Gaelic Grounds.
"We waited 12 months to get back here and we knew we were going to be in a battle against Kerins O'Rahilly's.
"We knew they had dangerous forwards inside, but the work-rate had to be out the field to stop the ball going in.
"We got lucky breaks, which is vital. We came to a Munster final last year and the breaks didn't go our way. When your day's in, it's in and fate plays a huge part in anything. We were clued in very quickly.
"Once the goal wasn't given (referee Maurice Condon disallowed Declan Quill's late fisted effort for 'square ball', we went up and got on with the game."
