McCann rejects Richmond offer

Antrim's Tomas McCann
Antrim attacker Tomas McCann has turned down the chance to join the Richmond Tigers. One of the stars of the Saffrons' surprise run to this year's Ulster football final, McCann has returned home after a three-week trial, having turned down an offer of a one-year stay with the Aussie Rules outfit. "They were looking to keep me on for the year and practice skills and sign on next year," he told the Irish Daily Star. "It's not the same sort of money (as if he had been offered an International Rookie contract). I wasn't going to stay unless I could live comfortably for the first couple of years. "They said I could practice the skills and stuff, but I thought there was no point. I'd rather come home and play GAA. Next year I don't know if I'll do it. I'll take the year to think about it." Players' agent Ricky Nixon explained: "Tomas has been given a plan of some things he needs to improve on. We will have another look at him next year." News of the Cargin clubman's decision to return home is a major boost to Antrim manager Liam Bradley, who has already lost this year's midfielder Niall McKeever to the Brisbane Lions on a two-year deal. Richmond recently signed Down under 21 star Jamie O'Reilly on a two-year contract.
