Bouts confirmed for 2009 Kildare Fight Night
November 10, 2009

Kildare's James Kavanagh
Ahead of the second hosting of the Kildare GAA White Collar event, the ten bouts have now been confirmed when members of the Kildare Senior Football panel will be throwing hands at Time venue, Naas this coming Friday.
After some close and exciting encounters at last year's hosting, some of Kildare's big names will once again be getting into the ring on Friday and after his win over Alan Barry 12 months ago, Kildare manager Kieran McGeeney will be biding to keep up his 100% strike rate when he takes on former Bohemians soccer player Mark Sullivan.
Two of Kildare's stars from this year's championship will be locking horns on Friday when Roli Sweeney and James Kavanagh clash in one of the most intriguing bouts of the evening. Both men will be hoping to remain undefeated in their boxing careers so reputation will be very much at stake when the representatives from Moorefield and Ballymore clash here.
One of last year's most impressive winners was Athy man Mick Foley, who beat Enda Murphy in one of last year's bouts, but it's unlikely that things will be as easy this time around for Mick 'Axle' Foley as he comes up against Moorefield hard-hitter Kevin O'Neill, who could prove to be a formidable opponent for the Athy man.
Eadestown man Emmet Bolton will be hoping to make up for last year's loss to Roli Sweeney when he takes on Andrew McLoughlin and with both players known for their speed on the pitch, this could be one of the closest and most entertaining fights on the night. Another of last year's boxers was Alan 'The Hurricane' Smith and he will be hoping to taste victory when he takes on Fight Night debutant Keith Cribben in another of this year's clashes.
There will be plenty of debutantes at this year's event with Straffan stalwart Robert Kelly taking on Brian Flanagan, Mark Scanlon facing Brian Kinahan and Morgan O'Flaherty due to exchange blows with Shane McCormack. And two more 'first-timers' will also be getting into the ring in a clash of the 'Whites' when Sarsfields' Gary Whyte takes on David Whyte.
Event Organiser, TV3 S Maureen Catterson said: "By the looks of things, this year's Kildare GAA Fight Night is going to be better than last year's event. Tickets have been flying out the door and a lot of people are really excited about this year's fundraiser. Some of this year's fights look perfectly matched but some people are expecting a couple of surprises just like last year. It's going to be a fabulous night."
MC for this year's event will once again be KFM's Killian Whelan while commentator Robert Catterson will be joined by one of the Kildare stars in the booth for analysis of the night's action. Tickets are still available for this year's Kildare GAA Fight Night while a select few will also be on sale at the door on the night. Doors open at 7pm.
