All-Ireland MHC: Tipp have that little bit extra

July 26, 2009
Tipperary 0-20 Wexford 0-19 Eanna Murray was the Tipperary hero after his 76th minute point secured an extra-time victory over Wexford in yesterday's ESB All-Ireland MHC quarter-final at Portlaoise. Despite playing most of the second half with 14 players after their corner forward Michael O'Brien was sent off on a second yellow card, the beaten Munster finalists forced extra-time thanks to a late point from centre back Brian Stapleton. There had been little to separate the sides throughout normal-time with Tom Dempsey's Wexford holding a slender 0-7 to 0-6 interval lead. A Jack Hobbs point within seconds of the start of the extra-time helped the Leinster runners-up to a two-point advantage, but a brace of Murray scores restored parity for Tipp before his point four minutes from the end sealed their place in the last-four.
