Leinster MFC: Dubs blitz Offaly in extra-time

June 28, 2009
Dublin scored four goals in extra-time to record an emphatic ESB Leinster MFC semi-final victory over a shell-shocked Offaly at Tullamore yesterday evening. Dublin.5-17 Offaly..1-15 (After extra-time) After letting the home side back into the game in normal time, Cyril Kevlihan's charges turned on the style in the additional 20 minutes to power into the final where they'll meet Kildare on July 12. The visitors led by 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time, but an Anton Sullivan penalty had Offaly level within five minutes of the restart. A Gary Sweeney goal edged the Metropolitans three points clear, but a strong Offaly rally ensured the sides were tied on 1-12 apiece at the end of normal time. But Dublin's superior fitness and strength in depth really came to the fore in extra-time. Darragh Stapleton's goal helped them to a 2-15 to 1-15 interval lead, and further majors from Philip Ryan (two) and Ciaran Reddin finished off the fading Faithful County challenge in the second period. Scorers - Dublin: P Hudson (2f) 2-7; D Stapleton 1-6; G Sweeney, C Reddin 1-0 each; P Ryan 0-2; M Concarr, F Duffy 0-1 each. Offaly: D Scanlon (3f), B Allen (1f) 0-4 each; A Sullivan (1-0 pen) 1-1; D O Murchu 0-2; N Graham, C Boland 0-1 each.
