Munster MHC: Galgey fires Deise into decider
June 25, 2009
Waterford 3-9
Clare 0-12
Ian Galgey came off the bench to inspire Waterford to a six-point victory over Clare in the ESB Munster MHC semi-final at Cusack Park, Ennis last night.
Brian Lohan's Clare dominated the early exchanges with Conor McGrath making a big impact at full forward. The Cratloe clubman accounted for over half of his side's first half tally as the Banner took a 0-9 to 1-2 lead into the break.
The Waterford goal came after eight minutes when Brian O'Halloran capitalised on a rare lapse in the Clare defence.
The visitors showed a big improvement in the second half and were back in the game within two minutes of the restart thanks to a Paudie Mahony goal. By the end of the third quarter they had surged four points clear and they eventually won by six, with substitute Galgey helping himself to 1-2.
The Deise will face either Tipperary or Cork in the provincial decider at Thurles on July 11.
