Leinster MHC: Cats too strong for Westmeath

June 25, 2009
Kilkenny 2-19 Westmeath 0-6 All-Ireland champions Kilkenny produced a dominant second half display to power into the Leinster MHC final at Westmeath's expense in Mullingar last night. Kilkenny only led by 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time, with Westmeath having had a goal disallowed for 'square ball', but there was only one team in it in the second half as the Cats showed all their class to set up a final date with Wexford. Barry O'Meara opened the scoring for the home from a '65', but Kilkenny hit back with points from Richie Boyle and Walter Walsh before Ger Aylward found the net. With O'Meara in fine form from placed balls, however, Westmeath rallied to trail by a goal at the break. But it was all Kilkenny in the second half with a glut of points being followed by a second insurance goal from Sean Kehoe.
