Leinster MHC: Wexford cruise into final

June 25, 2009
Wexford 2-21 Laois 0-15 Tom Dempsey's Wexford will face Kilkenny in the Leinster MHC final following a comfortable victory over 14-man Laois at O'Moore Park last night. The home side got off to a disastrous start when midfielder Paul Harding was issued with a straight red card after just 10 minutes. Wexford, who sent a first minute penalty over the bar, refused to allow this to unsettle them and had posted five points before Ian Byrne capitalised on a mistake by the Laois 'keeper to score the opening goal. A second goal from Padraig Farrell put the Slaneysiders firmly in the driving seat at half-time, but Laois, to their credit, made a fight of things in the second half with Darren King and Neil Foyle hitting good points. But they never seriously threatened the visitors who wrapped up the win with two spectacular late points from substitute Cathal Clince.
