Ulster MHC: Armagh crush poor Donegal
May 24, 2009
Armagh 3-25
Donegal 0-4
Armagh convincingly staked their claim for a quarter-final meeting with Derry in the ESB Ulster Minor Hurling Championship after handing Donegal a 30-point mauling yesterday.
The young Orchard men dominated this game from start to finish, with attacker Conor Corvan hitting an early couple of points before finding the net to help his side into a unassailable 1-10 to 0-2 lead at the break.
Ciaran Matthewson had pucked both of Donegal's points in the first-half and opened the scoring after the restart with his third free, but things were about to get much worse for his team.
Armagh's entire half-back line of James King, Fintan Corvan and Conor McKee all struck points, which were backed up by Conor Corvan and Michael Lennon on a constant basis.
Lennon fired in Armagh's second goal soon afterwards and the last green flag was raised five minutes from the end when Cathal Harnett completed Donegal's misery after a mistake from 'keeper Gavin Browne allowed the substitute to poke to the back of the net.
