Ulster MFC: Down outclass Fermanagh

May 18, 2009
Down sent out an early warning to their Ulster MFC rivals with a hugely impressive victory over Fermanagh in difficult weather conditions at Brewster Park. Down..1-12 Fermanagh0-4 Inspired by outstanding full forward Ross McGarry, Peter Turley's charges had things very much their own way against a physically smaller and lethargic Fermanagh side. After an early let-off which saw goalkeeper James Deeney deflect Ciaran McBrien's shot onto the post, Down took control and led by 0-5 to 0-1 at half-time. The home side's only score of the first half came from Jonathan Feely after 23 minutes. With Caolan Mooney and Niall McParland on top at midfield, the Mouremen continued to dominate in the second half and McGarry's goal midway through put the result beyond all doubt. Down will now face Cavan in the provincial quarter-final.
