Munster MFC: Fitzgerald on fire for Rebels
April 16, 2009
Daniel Fitzgerald was Cork's leading light as they withstood a second half comeback from Limerick at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last night to progress to the ESB Munster MFC semi-finals.
Cork 2-12
Limerick 1-6
The Kiskeam corner forward bagged 1-6 in a game the Rebels made hard work of winning. With Fitzgerald scoring 1-5, the winners had opened up a 1-7 to 0-3 lead by half-time, but Limerick came roaring back after the restart and Paul Donna's 44th minute penalty left just three points between them, 1-8 to 1-5.
However, the home side rallied and a Brian Hurley goal with five minutes remaining gave them a 2-10 to 1-6 lead. David Drake and William O'Mahony added points in the closing stages to give Cork a flattering win.
