Munster U21FC final: Galvin denies gallant Tipp
March 29, 2009
A lat-gasp goal from Noel Galvin handed Cork a dramatic victory over Tipperary in the Cadbury Munster under 21 football final at Semple Stadium.
Cork1-9
Tipperary2-5
It was heartbreak once again for Tipp who crashed to their third consecutive provincial final defeat in this grade. Cork, who hammered both Kerry and Waterford en route to the final, played the entire second half with 14 players after Chris O'Donovan was sent off late in the first half, and looked set for a shock defeat when Tipp struck two goals within nine minutes of the restart.
After leading 0-4 to 0-2 at half-time, the Rebels had fallen 2-4 to 0-6 in arrears by the 39th minute thanks to goals from Timmy Dalton and Brian Fox. But despite having wind and numerical advantage, Tipp couldn't kill them off as David Goold's accurate free-taking kept the visitors in contention before Galvin fired home through a mass of bodies in the second minute of injury-time to snatch an unlikely victory for John Cleary's side.
