Mayo remain firmly on course for a fourth consecutive Cadbury Connacht U21FC title following a one-point victory over neighbours Galway at Charlestown. Senior player Mikey Sweeney's opportunist goal in the 22nd minute gave them a 1-4 to 0-4 half-time lead. The home side extended their advantage 12 minutes after the restart when Jason Doherty added a second goal and although Galway rallied in the final quarter with scores from Michael Martin and Fiachra Breathnach, the charges of Pat Holmes and Noel Conneely held on for a deserved victory.
