Munster U21FC: Cork canter to victory

March 15, 2009
Ciaran Sheehan and David Goold scored 0-10 between them as Cork recorded a facile victory over Kerry in a surprisingly one-sided Cadbury Munster U21 FC quarter-final at Pairc Ui Rinn. Cork1-17 Kerry0-9 John Cleary's charges never looked back after wing forward Colm O'Driscoll broke through for an early goal. With Sheehan, Colm O'Neill and Shane McCarthy to the fore, the Rebels went on to lead by 1-9 to 0-4 at the interval with neither of Kerry's two big guns, David Moran or Tommy Walsh, making an impact. The home side maintained their dominance in the second half with Sheehan and Goold, in particular, giving the visiting defence a torrid time. By the end of the third quarter, Cork led 1-14 to 0-6 and despite the best efforts of Gary Sayers who scored 0-3 for the Kingdom, they marched on impressively to a semi-final meeting with Waterford. In the other Munster U21 FC quarter-final under the new lights at Cooraclare on Friday night, Clare beat Limerick 0-13 to 0-7 to set up a semi-final showdown with Tipperary. Scorers - Cork: C Sheehan 0-6; D Goold 0-4; Colm O'Driscoll 1-0; C O'Neill (2f), S McCarthy 0-3 each; J Fitzpatrick 0-1. Kerry: BJ Walsh, G Sayers 0-3 (1f) each; T Walsh 0-2; S Enright 0-1.
