Walsh flies out to Melbourne

Kerry star Tommy Walsh
Rising Kerry football star Tommy Walsh flies out to Melbourne today for trials with AFL club St. Kilda, despite the fact that he will still be airborne when the deadline for the recruitment of international rookies closes tonight. Walsh, along with club and county colleague David Moran, were due to attend trials with St. Kilda last month, but were unable to travel after the Kerry SFC final between Kerins O'Rahilly's and Mid Kerry ended in a draw. But following the Tralee club's defeat to Mid Kerry in last Sunday's replayed final, Walsh has decided to take up the chance of a free trip to Australia. Ironically, the Young Footballer of the Year had to forgo a similar opportunity in October for the International Rules series due to Kerins O'Rahilly's extended championship run. Moran will not be travelling as he is believed to have exams at UL in the coming weeks. Walsh is taking a year out from his studies in IT Tralee and is currently working with an engineering firm in Cork. A club source said: "He has a few weeks off, so he is heading down to experience the game. As you know, he already missed out on two trips."
