Daly's services were much sought-after

Anthony Daly has revealed that a number of other counties had approached him before he accepted the Dublin hurling manager's post. The Clare legend refused to divulge who sought his managerial talents, but it's believed Limerick were one of the counties who approached him. "This one (Dublin) was more attractive to me with the young people coming through," he told a press gathering at Parnell Park yesterday. "And with a few of our neighbouring counties (in Clare), we have fierce rivalry down there. I have no great history with Dublin and no axe to grind. In that sense there was a bit of freedom in it." The Clarecastle man claimed that Tipperary great Nicky English would have been "the obvious choice" for the post given his impressive playing and management CV, and the fact that he is based in the capital. "If I was the Dublin Board I'd be looking at Nicky. But maybe that dragged on a bit. With me, it was a few phone calls, a meeting and a few days to think about it. Daly, who got lost on his way to Parnell Park, joked that 'a sat-nav' was top of his Christmas present wish list.
