Hiney "delighted" at Daly appointment
November 25, 2008
Dublin hurling captain Stephen Hiney has given a ringing endorsement to the appointment of Anthony Daly as the county's new manager.
The double All-Ireland winning captain with Clare was ratified as Tommy Naughton's successor at last night's county board meeting, and Hiney admitted that he cannot wait to play under him.
"We're all absolutely delighted that he's decided to take on the job. It is brilliant news. To get someone like him who has such a proven track record in playing and management is a hugely positive move for Dublin hurling, and I think everyone would be in agreement with that," he said.
The Ballyboden St. Enda's admitted he was relieved that the process of appointing a new manager had finally ended, and is now hoping Daly can build on the progress that was made under Tommy Naughton.
"It did drag on and the longer it went on, the more difficult it seemed it was going to be to make the appointment. We didn't know who was going to end up with the position or who the county board were negotiating with. So we're delighted that they've appointed Anthony Daly.
"But we feel that Dublin hurling came on unbelievably under Tommy Naughton and he did great things for us. When it came to the end of his term, he just felt that we needed a new face and new ideas. We've got a manager now that's going to bring a new approach to it and we're just hoping now that we'll start to make progress."
