Bohan: Dublin have got the 'best' in Daly

November 24, 2008
Former Clare hurling selector Fr Harry Bohan believes the Dublin county board have pulled off a major coup by securing the services of Anthony Daly as hurling manager. The two-time All-Ireland winning captain, who managed Clare to the brink of an All-Ireland final in 2005, will be ratified as Dublin's new hurling boss at a specially convened county board meeting tonight, and Bohan feels he is an inspired choice. "He's the best in a couple of ways," Bohan said.. "He is a real, genuine hurling man. He loves the game. He has a huge understanding of players - as well as being a very good manager/coach, he will also be a very good man-manager." Highlighting the "massive enthusiasm and huge passion" that Daly will bring to the capital, Fr Bohan added: "Dublin are very lucky to get him ... I think Dublin more than most counties have come a distance themselves with a good crop of young players coming up, but I'd say he should bring them above the level of Offaly and Wexford. "Kilkenny will always be the problem, but even if he brings them up to a level where they can seriously compete with the rest in Leinster, he will be doing a good job." "Anthony captained the two All-Ireland teams and he carried all that very lightly on his shoulders," he added. "He never got carried away - he would be able to communicate with players at every level. He went down for the last two years and trained Kilmoyley in Kerry, and he absolutely lived every game with them. They lost the county final last year and won it this year; last year was like the end of the world for him." Daly's first game in charge is likely to be the annual Dubs Stars game in Kilbarrack on January 1. His first competitive game will be against All-Ireland champions Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup on January 18.
