Newtown club notes

November 17, 2008
On Saturday last, Newtown, Junior B champions, faced Kiltegan, the Junior A champions, in the Swan Cup final. Played in Newtown, the home side was a match for the more fancied Kiltegan for most of the game, and were unlucky to be just pipped by a single point at the end. But for a few missed opportunities, Newtown could and should have won this match against all odds. It was played at a fast and furious pace from the throw-in, and Newtown got off to a flying start with a Marty Heffernan goal in the opening minutes. It was nip and tuck all the way and Newtown can feel justifiably proud of their spirited performance, and look forward to next years campaign in Junior A ranks with confidence. Well done lads. The final score was Newtown 2-07, Kiltegan 1-11.  Newtown scores came from Marty Heffernan 1-01, Dessie Waters 1-00, Terry Murphy 0-04, Rory Fenelon and Anthony Duffy 0-01 each. A new Foundation Coaching Course is coming up soon. Anyone wishing to do this course, which will be covered in one evening, should contact Robert as soon as possible. It is necessary to have done this course before moving on to other coaching courses. Newtown senior team will play their final league match against Carnew this coming weekend. Check the fixtures column for details. Don't forget to do your weekly lotto and support your club. Thanks to all our ticket sellers and those who buy the tickets faithfully every week. Without the lotto draw, the club wouldn't be able to function. Coming up soon will be the free draws for Christmas hampers, turkeys and hams included in your weekly ticket. Condolences to the families of Kathleen Clarkson and Eileen Davis, who passed away recently.
