Walsh to face Galway in FBD opener

November 13, 2008
Kevin Walsh will face his native Galway in his first game as Sligo football manager. The opening Connacht FBD League clash on January 4 is expected to be a dress rehearsal for Walsh's first championship game in charge of the Yeats County, assuming Galway account for London in the opening round. Sligo have been handed home advantage for the clash which is expected to draw a big attendance given Walsh's ties with both counties. Connacht Council secretary John Prenty said: "We are finalising venues and times at the moment but the competition will start on the first weekend of January." The double All-Ireland winning midfielder was appointed Sligo manager last week in succession to Tommy Jordan, who stepped down in the wake of the county's heavy Connacht championship defeat to Mayo.
