Shock as Pearse Og WITHDRAW from league

November 07, 2008
Louth hurling club Pearse Og have opted to withdraw from the senior league - even though they could still have qualified for the final. In an amazing show of frustration, the Dundalk club decided that they'd rather not play in the competition any more seeing as they had been granted walkovers in three of their four games. Protesting at the manner in which opposing club's don't show up for games, the Holy Family parish club announced at this month's County Board meeting that they're not going to have nay further involvement in the final. Due to the withdrawal of Pearse Og, Mattock Rangers, who were in third place on the table, with a game in hand (and had every chance of finishing second anyway), will now play in this weekend's final - their first appearance in a major hurling decider.
