SHC final replay expected to go to the wire

November 06, 2008
Both Glenealy midfielder Jonathan O'Neill and Carnew forward Don Hyland are predicting another close contest in Saturday's SHC final replay at Aughrim. The sides renew their rivalry 13 days after they played out a thrilling draw, and O'Neill feels the replay will be equally tight. "As long as we're in front when that final whistle blows, I'll be happy. We'll take a point victory no problem, but it's not going to be easy against Carnew, it never is," the Wicklow star said. "Practically all matches between Glenealy and Carnew are close affairs and I would say that there will be only a puck of a ball between us again on Saturday. That has been the case over the years and I believe that it is going to be a really good game of hurling." O'Neill's inter-county colleague Hyland remarked: "If past experience is any guide then this replay will be a totally different type of contest to the drawn match. While you cannot ignore the trends that emerged in the drawn match, you have also to plan and be prepared for a completely different scenario emerging in the replay. "Carnew and Glenealy are very evenly matched, there is little or nothing between the sides, and whichever team dominates in the closing 10 minutes, that is the one that is going to triumph."
