GPA announce Gaelic football 'Team of the Year'

The Gaelic Players' Association has revealed the official Opel Gaelic 'Team of the Year' for Football for 2008. All-Ireland champions Tyrone boast nine players out of the 15 in all, while beaten finalists Kerry have three representatives. Wexford, Westmeath and Galway also have one member each on the team GPA Chief Executive, Dessie Farrell, today congratulated the selected players on their achievement, acknowledging those players nominated who didn't make the cut "Congratulations to all the winners and in particular to Tyrone who have obviously proven hugely popular champions with the playing body. "I'd like to also acknowledge the contribution of the nominated players and indeed all the other squad members who didn't make the awards scheme. "I know there were several tight battles as every player was fighting to win his own position and this is what makes the scheme unique." The 2008 Opel Gaelic team of the Year for Football: Anthony Masterson (Wexford); John Keane (Westmeath), Justin McMahon (Tyrone), Conor Gormley (Tyrone); Davy Harte (Tyrone), Philip Jordan (Tyrone), Ryan McMenamin (Tyrone); Darragh Ó Sé (Kerry), Enda McGinley (Tyrone); Brian Dooher (Tyrone), Declan O'Sullivan (Kerry), Joe McMahon (Tyrone); Colm Cooper (Kerry), Seán Cavanagh (Tyrone), Michael Meehan (Galway).
