Clarke talks up Ireland's chances
October 11, 2008
Current Collingwood Aussie Rules star Martin Clarke is convinced that Ireland will acquit themselves well against Australia in the upcoming International Rules matches.
The Down native has been ruled out of the series due to an ankle injury but reckons his countrymen can put it up to his adopted country.
"I watched a lot of the Championship this year, and there was a lot of quality football played in it," said the former Down ace.
"Sean Boylan has picked a very skilful squad, and if the boys can match the Australians in the physical side of things it will be a lot closer than it has been.
"I would have loved to play because there are so many players I would have liked to have played with, like Sean Cavanagh.
"To see how those boys go against the best players in the Australian League will be pretty interesting."
