Kildare chairman steps down
October 09, 2008
Kildare Bord na nOg are this week searching for a new chairman following the resignation of Eddie Manning from the position over a row with the county senior board.
Last week, Manning was left furious after the Kildare County Board overruled Bord na nOg and postponed the under-16 Shield final between Balyna and Sallins.
The County Board reason for cancelling the game was that eight of the Balyna side were due to play in the minor championship later that same day, but this decision incensed Manning.
"I spoke to the fixtures people in advance of the finals, so they knew when they were fixed for. People put in an awful lot of work to promote underage games and some priority has to be given to the games," said Manning.
The outgoing chairman felt he had no option but to step down as he was told that should the same circumstances arise in the future, the county board would make the same decision.
"This is not a decision I made lightly but I feel I have no option but to step down from everything."
