Chairman wishes Ryan all the best

October 09, 2008
Many Kildare GAA followers were disappointed to hear that Glen Ryan would not continue his good work with the county under-21's next season, but Lilywhites' chairman Syl Merrins wished the former player the best of luck in his new role as Longford manager. Ryan is a legend in the county having represented Kildare at senior level for over 15 years and last year, he guided the county under-21 side to the All-Ireland final, where they were beaten by Kerry in the decider. However, the general consensus was that Ryan would stay with the under-21's for another year at least and try to build a side capable of going one step further in the championship. But, Ryan has opted to give senior management ago and will take over as Longford boss from Luke Dempsey, who stepped down after his side's exit from the qualifiers. "From an under-21 point of view, we are disappointed to lose him, but from a Glenn Ryan point of view it is a great opportunity," said the Kildare chairman. "It is a good move and I would like to wish him the best of luck in his new position."
