U16's Congratulations to the Under 16 Team who beat St. Kiernan's to become London U16 Champions for the 3rd time in a row. The game was played in Ruislip on Saturday in dry but windy conditions. The first half saw the Gaels take the lead by 7 points. The Kiernan's came back in the second half to score two goals in quick succession but the Gaels were determined not to be beaten and kept ahead eventually winning by 11 points. The final score was TCG 1-21 to St. Kiernan's 2-7. Tony O' Halloran Chairman of the London of the London Minor Board was on hand to present the cup to Liam Gavaghan captain of the team. The next stop is the All Britain Championship semi-final against Glenn Rovers in Watford on 18TH October. Well done to Noel and all the lads who have played great football. U18's The minors travelled to Mitcham on Sunday and finished off a hectic weekend in the Gaels calendar where they met Round Towers in the primarily round of the championship the lads proved their worth with a good performance of football under wet conditions. The final score was TCG 5.12 Round Towers 3.04 well done lads. The semi final id due to be played next Saturday against Parnell's in Greenford at 5.00pm. U10's We had a good turnout of 17 players and four coaches and were able to field two decent teams at Tara's late season Blitz. We were pretty competitive in the A group despite losing our three games, two were by only one score. With our shooting boots on we would have won both of these comfortably having missed a stack of chances. The younger lads did really well in the B group against much bigger teams, winning two and losing two by one point each. Nearly all of the lads here today will still be under ten next year, many the year after also and gives us great hope for the next couple of years. See you all at presentation night on Oct 17th, 7.30pm. Lets hope we can achieve this standard on Sun. and bring the Cup back to Castlefin and the Finn Valley. We appeal to all our supporters, who have been magnificent all year, to really come out in big numbers on Sun. wear your club colours and get behind the team. Good vocal support can get the team through the difficult patches that every team goes through in a game. We wish the Mgm. Inishowan club notes Buncrana The Senior and Reserve teams hosted St Naul's from Mountcharles on Saturday afternoon last. It was a very youthful-looking Buncrana Reserve team who lined out and they put in a fine performance, ending the game on a draw. There were good performances from Patrick McMyler, Mark McGonagle and Ronan Walshe. In a hard fought battle at senior level, Odhran Doherty scored the winning point for Buncrana with just a couple of minutes on the clock. This was an important game for Buncrana as it ensured they would play their football in Division 1 again next year. The final game of the season is again against St Naul's in Mountcharles. The under-14 county final was postponed on Saturday due to the adverse weather conditions. The u-12 hurling season came to a disappointing end on Sunday in Carn. The young hurlers were defeated in county final by 2-0 to 0-4 by Burt. A game in which they dominated for long periods, the boys played with great heart and passion and their never say die attitude had them leading the game by a point with seconds to go, but a last minute goal gave Burt the victory. The tears at the end were a reflection of how much this meant to the team, and with seven of the starting team under 10 , no doubt this team will be back. The team management would like to thank the boys for their hard work, and to all the parents for their support. Hopefully the boys will learn from this harsh sporting lesson and will be back stronger next year. The PRO is currently compiling the Buncrana submission for the Donegal Yearbook. Would all team managers please have their submissions with her by 15 October at the latest. Please submit to [email protected]. Club meeting on Tuesday evening at 8.30p.m. All team managers and club officials are asked to attend. Burt It was a good weekend for the Club with the Senior Footballers and the u-12 Hurlers recording wins in the Division 2 League and the Donegal u-12 'A' Championship. On Sunday the Senior Footballers defeated Bundoran 1-12 to 2-6 and gained two valuable points in their bid to avoid the drop. But it could have gone differently with an early goal conceded in the first minute. But the boys battled back to record a three point win, with Darragh Grant getting the Burt goal. The win leaves Burt just a point ahead of the play-off places but having games to spare over our main rivals. The seniors now have five games to play, one home and four away. Hopefully a few more good performances will get us the points needed to secure Division 2 status again next year. The reserve footballers played Bundoran on Sunday with an early throw-in of 12 noon. Despite creating enough chances they failed to find that winning score and drew 1-7 to 1-7. The u-12 Hurlers did the Club proud when they clinched the Donegal A Championship Final on Sunday afternoon. In a very closely-fought game, Burt defeated Buncrana 2-0 to 0-4. Played in good conditions in Ó Dochartaigh Park, Carndonagh, the low scoring was in contrast to the exciting atmosphere. It was level at half-time - Burt 1-0 to 0-3 - with Caolan McGrath getting the goal. Burt struggled to find their form throughout the game with Buncrana dominating the majority of play. The second half saw both sides' defences on top with Martin Strain and Paul McGrath best for Burt. Buncrana scored a point with five minutes to go before Ryan McLaughlin scored the vital winning goal with a minute left. But it was goalkeeper Jamie Barr who was man-of-the-match with numerous saves throughout the game and a splendid save minutes from time to keep Burt in it. That win capped a good season, completing a League and Championship double. Many thanks to all the coaches and parents who helped out on the day and indeed all year. The team was: Jamie Barr, Gavin McLaughlin, Paul McGrath, Tom Doherty, Kyle McGrath, Martin Strain, Niamh Devlin, Olivia Devlin, Paula McGrory, Darren Gallagher, Georgie Kelly, Ryan McLaughlin, Craig Brogan, Caolan McGrath, Aimee Grant, Kyle Long, Tony Cregan, Stephen McClafferty, Ryan Doherty, Ryan Arbuckle, Shane Brady. There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. PJ O'Brien and Enda McDermott won ?20 each. The numbers drawn were 3, 2, 1, 7, 5, 6, 4. Next week's jackpot is ?1,150. Anyone with lotto's should have them in the clubhouse by Thursday night or hand it to any club member. For the underage players, this coming weekend is busy. The u-13 footballers are away to Urris in the Inishowen Championship on Saturday with throw-in 11am. Bus leaves Clubhouse at 10am. There will be training this Tuesday night from 6pm-7pm depending on how bright the evening is. The u-13s are also into the Northern Board Division 2 Final, provisionally fixed for 25 October. Last Saturday's game against Glenswilly was cancelled. The u-16s are playing Setanta this weekend in the championship semi-final on either Saturday or Sunday. The game will be played in Killygordon. Last Thursday's match was cancelled. Training is 5.30pm on Wednesday night. There is a school hurling and camogie blitz today, 7 October, in Buncrana with teams from both Tooban and Bridgend schools participating. The top two go into the finals on Saturday afternoon in Carn. Underage hurling training and camogie training is on Monday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm. Please remember to bring helmet, equipment etc. Reminder for underage players that membership is now overdue, ?10 per child. Carn With the Junior A Championship final just one week away, manager Canny had all the squad for an intense training session on Sunday. However before the serious business of training the players and club executive distributed informational leaflets at all the masses and decorated the Diamond with flags and bunting. There is great excitement and anticipation within the club and wider community about the upcoming final. On Saturday evening the Reserves had a comprehensive victory against Convoy, beating them by a margin of 3-10 to 1-5. The team and scorers were: Shane Gibbons, Tiernan Coyne, Emmett Doherty, William Mooney, Paul McLaughlin, Shane Donaghey, Paddy McCallion, Conor Doherty, Paddy McLaughlin (M)(0-2), Niall McGuinness (0-5), Charles Fayet (0-2), Shane Devlin (0-1), Dermot Doherty (B)(1-0), Sean McLaughlin (G)(1-0), Richie Cunningham (1-0), Daniel McLaughlin (B). The Carn boys and girls got back to winning ways at under-13 in last week's game against Muff. Once again the home side had a large panel to choose from and everyone getting their chance to participate, this was an entertaining game. Muff started well getting the early goal and few points, which kept them ahead and leading by four at the break. The second half was all Carn with the strong midfield and half backs pushing forward making it difficult for Muff to get out of their half and find their forwards. A strong performance by Conor Doherty (S) who has just returned from injury assisted by Matthew McLaughlin led the attack to give Carn a comfortable win in the end. Final Score: Carn 2-18 Muff 2-6 Last Saturday the u14 county final, Carndonagh v Naomh Mhuire was cancelled due to the inclement weather. The Saturday morning coaching begins this Saturday, 11 October at 11am in Páirc Uí Dochartaigh. The U-12B league final in hurling is due to be played this Saturday and the Carndonagh team will play MacCumhaills. On Thursday the u16 hurlers play Buncrana in Buncrana. The bus will leave from KSS at 4.45 pm. Congratulations to Dermot McGonagle and Pádraig Doherty who played on the u16 county hurling team that beat Derry and Tyrone in Croke Park. Last Friday night the club held a very successful solo-singing competition for the forthcoming Scór Na nÓg Donegal Semi-Final. Seven competitors competed namely Aimee McDaid, Lisa McGrenra, Vicky Henderson, Niamh McGonagle, Conor Doherty, Kate McCreanor and Niamh McDonald. Our adjudicator Tanya Ni Garbheith had a very difficult decision in choosing one singer from this very talented group. In the end, Kate McCreanor was chosen to represent the club. The club would like to express their thanks to all the competitors and would like to wish Kate every success in the semi-final. Thanks also to the parents for their help and support on the night. A special word of thanks goes to our Instrumental group, Toni McCormick, Shannon Farren, Rachel McLaughlin and Siobhan O'Connor who provided entertainment during the interval. The club will run a series of classes in conversational Irish for club members. This is an opportunity for use our native language in a relaxed and informal setting. Enquires to Cormac Skinnader at 0864052390. The winning numbers in the club mini- lotto were 2, 22, 20, 9 and 7. There was no jackpot winner. The ?75 went to Helen Kelly, Malin Road, Carndonagh. ?30 to Patrick Colin O'Keefe, 38 Convent Road, Carndonagh. ?15 to Caohman Canny, Effishmore, Gleneely, Colleen Meritt, Churchtown, Carndonagh and Margaret Diver, 22 Convent Road, Carndonagh. The jackpot next week is ?1,200 and the draw will be held in the Glen Bar. The next club meeting will be held on Tuesday 14 October at 9pm. Malin The senior and reserve sides are home to Cloughaneely next Sunday in what are both must win games, the reserve side have to win to have any hope of winning the division while the senior side must take both points to ensure they finish above Cloughaneely, thus avoiding the automatic relegation spot. Games are at 1.30 and 3pm, and the club would seek as much support as possible. Beginners are welcome at any time. Moville Congratulations to our ladies team who recorded a great victory away to Glen, Maghera on Sunday. The highly rated Derry outfit had no answer to the forward power of the Moville ladies and with the exception of a ten minute period in the middle of each half, Moville dominated and created many chances in addition to recording an impressive tally of 5-12. While visitors ran up a credible 2-14 they had few goal chances which is always a sign of good defending. The team are on the road next weekend again when they make the long journey to the Marshes in Newry to take on the Down champions Clonduff in the Ulster semi final. The senior team game against Naomh Columba was called off on Saturday because of the weather. Most likely the seniors will be in action this weekend. Bookings are being taken for the astro surface by contacting club secretary Sean Faulkner at 0868554829. A fine selection of club gear is available by contacting treasurer Bridget Harkin. The annual dinner dance has been fixed for Saturday 29 November in Caislean Mara and music will be by the popular Cavanagh brothers. Naomh Pádraig The Girls U12 side beat Robert Emmet's on Saturday in the County Semi-Final. Strong performances by Stacey Doherty who scored two goals and Aine McLaughlin and Emer Lafferty who scored a goal apiece meant they cruised to a 4-12 to 0-03 victory. The girls now face St Eunan's in the final with the date and venue to be confirmed. The reserves hosted Red Hugh's in Ture on Saturday evening. Played in cold and wet conditions, an under strength Naomh Pádraig side struggled against the visitors who held a wind assisted nine point lead at half-time. Naomh Pádraig fared better in the second half especially when a Gerard McColgan penalty reduced the deficit to five points however a late break by Red Hugh's ended with the ball in the net as they ran out comfortable 2-13 to 1-8 winners in the end. Senior training will take place on Wednesday only this week, beginning at 7.30pm sharp. The club will hold a Scór na nÓg trial this Sunday, 12 October in the clubhouse at 4pm. The competition is confined to children from the parish aged between 9-16 years. For more information, please contact Eileen McLaughlin on 07493 83312. The club's annual Night of the Races will take place in Mary Deeney's on Friday 24 October. Horses will be on sale from Club Members for ?10 while race sponsors will also be required. Anyone interested in sponsoring a race can arrange this with any committee member, and as always all support greatly appreciated. There will also be an underage Fancy Dress Halloween Disco in the clubhouse on Sunday 26 October. Keep an eye on notes for further details. Finally there are a very limited number of Donegal Yearbooks still for sale. This award winning publication gives an excellent account of Donegal GAA, especially its coverage of the clubs. It's well worth ?15 and can be purchased from any committee member. There are also one or two Kit Bags remaining and these are priced at ?25. As always, check out www.naomhpadraig.com for all the club news online. Urris There will be a Club meeting this coming Wednesday at 8.30pm. All Club members are asked to do their very best to attend these very important meetings. A strong display by the Senior team last Saturday evening when they beat Naomh Bríd by 2-9 to 0-8 has eased relegation worries slightly for the Club. The team now sits on 15 points, which should be enough to see them safe again for this year but it is hard to gauge our true position because yet again the clubs below us in the league (who all have games in hand) didn't play. The Seniors now have only one game remaining in their season; this will be a home match against Bundoran which will be played within the next few weeks. The team members are asked to stay in contact with the coaches to find out when this game is going to be played. Training for the Senior team will be at the usual times and the same effort we saw last Saturday night is needed again to ensure we finish the season in the safety zone. The Under 12 girls finally played their County final against Milford last weekend but ran into a much stronger team on the day. The girls did the Club proud though, never giving up the cause and fighting right to the final whistle. Congratulations to Milford who were rightful winners on the day but congratulations to the Urris girls too on the display they gave in defeat. Well done girls on reaching the final and we hope to see you all back in the Club colours again next season. Club members are asked to contact David Hession if there is anything about the Club they would especially like to see in the Donegal Yearbook this year. The Yearbook goes for publication at the end of October so if there are pictures or articles for inclusion David needs them before then. The Yearbook should be on sale in time for the Christmas holidays all being well. The U13s will be training on Wednesday evening from 5.30 to 6.30pm, please note the change of time. They have one Inishowen league match left to play against Burt this coming Saturday morning at 11.00am. The lads are asked to be at Straid for 10.30am to prepare for the game. If they win this match they will have reached the Inishowen final for the second year in a row against Buncrana, so a good showing will be needed from all concerned. The team has also qualified for the knockout stages of the Northern board championship, it is still not clear who they will be matched against in this tournament but we should know over the next week or so. The Club has a new range of hoodies, rain jackets and replica shirts available for all ages. These tops can be personalised and will make ideal gifts for birthdays and dare I say it Christmas? For details on pricing or to place an order, contact Paul McLaughlin. All merchandise must be paid for prior to ordering if the top is being personalised. The years drawn in the Urris Match and Win last week were: 1961, 1970, 1973 and 1983. The Jackpot wasn't claimed and next week's Jackpot will now be ?3,780. The winners of ?15 were: Phyllis Doherty, Cedar Grove, Carndonagh; Donal & Niamh Kelly, Tullagh; Margaret Devlin, 4 Gaddyduff, Clonmany; Sally Devlin, Boherna, Clonmany; Shane Doherty, Tiernasligo. ST. NAUL'S NOTES SENIORS / RESERVES Both teams complete their league division 1B home games this Saturday evening against Buncrana, (see elsewhere for throw in times) having played the same opposition in Buncrana last Saturday evening, the reserves had an excellent 1 point win despite playing with a much changed team from that which won the championship. The seniors were also missing quite a few regulars and were unfortunate in losing by a single point, 1 - 12 to 1 - 13. They need to overturn that result this week to ensure division 1B status for next year. These games will hopefully bring an end to adult football for this year, many thanks to all our players, supporters, sponsors and workers over the course of the year. SLOTTO. There was no winner of last weekend's slotto jackpot, winner of 80 euro for nearest to correct sequence was John Sheerin, Mountcharles. Sequence drawn was 6,2,3,5,1,4 &7. Northern Board notes Commiserations to Letterkenny Gaels on their defeat to Naomh Ultan, in the U-18 Division 2 final, Played last sunday in Mac Cumhaill Park before the Senior Championship Decider. In what turned out to be a glorious display of football, in near perfect conditions, the old cliche "Goals win Games" was to the fore, where the final score, was Naomh Ultan 4-10 Letterkenny Gaels 2-10. One Commentator on the day quoted "Now thats what football is all about, a wonderful glorious display of Gaelic Gootball" Last Saturdays Fixture list was obliterated by the adverse weather conditions. U-15 fixtures were cancelled, due to the fact clubs were involved in the U-14 county finals. They were called off also. With the long Saturday evening journey behind them and missing a few regulars the lads never seemed to get into their usual rhythm. ¬?Urris eventually ran out victorious by 2 goals, one from either half. The Reserve had no game due to the fact that Urris have dropped out of the league. It is encouraging that the Brid are still putting teams out at this stage of the Season, with 3 games left a couple of wins is not out of the question given the good performances of many of the lads for the Seniors at the weekend. Content for the clubs section of the Donegal GAA Yearbook is now required. I ask managers of the individual sides to draft up a short piece of text on their respective seasons. Any team pictures would also be much appreciated. All content to be received by 13/10/08, and can be sent to [email protected] Please call me on 087 2921306 with any queries. Letterkenny club notes Our Minors were defeated by Naomh Ultan on Sunday last in the Division 2  Championship final . Both teams served up a great game of Gaelic football in what turned out to be a fantastic curtain raiser to the County Final. Although we lost on a scoreline of 4.10 to 2.12 many neutrals were delighted with the quality of Gaelic football and a wonderful advertisement for the GAA. The star of the show on the day was Jamie Doherty who bagged 2.9 and the woodwork denied him on at least two other occasions. Others to play well on the day were Tommy McLaughlin in nets. Darren Hunter at the back and James McGlynn in attack, showed a return to form. The U15s are scheduled to play Milford in the U15 championship this Saturday at 12noon. Commiserations to our reserve team who lost out by one goal in a tightly contested game in Glenswilly on Saturday evening against St. Euans in the senior reserve county final, having led for most of the game Dungloe displayed some fine passages of football and were very unlucky not to come away with at least a draw. A goal in the second half by mid fielder Stephen Doherty put Dungloe back into the lead again after St Euans had scored three unanswered second half points to draw level and with Martin McGarvey, Alan Boyle and Tony Boyle leading the way Dungloe were the better team, however two goals were to prove costly and paved the way for St Euans to claim the reserve title. The club would like to thanks all the players and management for their effort and also all the supporters who traveled to Glenswilly to support the reserve team.
