Leinster newcomers could get home draws

October 06, 2008
Nickey Brennan has refused to rule out the possibility of Leinster hurling championship games being held outside the province if Galway or Antrim are drawn at home next year. The GAA president said that ultimately the decision will rest with the Leinster Council who will decide where the matches are played once the championship draws are made on Wednesday night. Brennan, who warmly welcomed last Saturday's historic vote to admit Galway and Antrim to the Leinster hurling championship, said: "This thing has been in the back of my mind for a long number of years, ever since I raised it first within Leinster, and I'm particularly pleased that at long last we have a structure that's good from Antrim and Galway's point of view. "It is a different championship for the next three years but what happens after that I wouldn't pre-judge. "It is the intention of Christy Cooney (GAA president-elect) that for the 2011 Congress he will have work done on this to either put what was passed today permanently into rule or a new amendment. "I don't want to tie the hands of my successor so we will have to wait and see how things pan out. But for the next three years, Galway and Antrim will be playing in Leinster and where those games take place is totally a matter for the Leinster Council."
