Sligo SFC: Taylor helps Harps reclaim title

October 06, 2008

Paul Taylor
Eastern Harps 1-16 Tubbercurry 1-8 After suffering defeat in last year's decider, Eastern Harps claimed the Sligo Senior Football Championship crown with eight points of comfort to spare over Tubbercurry at Markievicz Park on Sunday. A promising opening start from last year's beaten finalists saw them take in a 1-5 to 0-6 lead at the break, with star forward Paul Taylor very much to the forefront in regards to both creation and scoring. Tubbercurry came out for the second-half with that bit more purpose which saw them strike an early goal through David Kelly and a pair of frees from Brian Walsh which levelled the game on 40 minutes. However the eventual losers would fail to register a single score for the remainder of the game as Taylor, who brought his tally up to 1-43 for the championship, and his fellow forwards ran riot to secure the Owen B Hunt Cup for Harps.
