St. John's face huge task

October 03, 2008
News that the clubrooms destroyed by fire at St. John's will have to be completely rebuilt means that the club could face a bill of nearly £1m. The clubhouse was destroyed by an arson attack and already members of the local community have pledged to help with the rebuild of the home of the newly crowned county junior football champions. While there were claims that it may have been a sectarian attack, the club are going to lengths to explain that unless somebody is caught for the arson, then it is impossible to apportion blame. Club Vice Chairman PJ McGrady explained the loss that was felt around the area. "What we have lost in that building means nothing to anyone outside the club, but to us it is out lives, our memories and our highs and lows," explained PJ. Also he explained the response of all members of the community around the club. "Many members of the Protestant community have already offered their assistance and expressed their dismay and what has happened and we are grateful for that."
