Dempsey wants more emphasis on coaching
October 02, 2008
Mayo minor manager Ray Dempsey believes that unless the county adapt a more professional approach with regards to the coaching of underage players, then they will be waiting a long time before their next national success.
Dempsey was speaking after his charges lost out to a well drilled Tyrone side in last weekend's replay after extra time and he feels that Mayo would do well to take a leaf out of the Red Hand County's book.
Tyrone has had huge success over the past 15 years at underage level and they have reaped the benefits at senior level winning three All-Ireland senior titles this decade.
"So going forward from our point of view, if we want to be consistent and taken seriously, we have to really up our coaching and get the real support and backing that's needed to compete with the Tyrones of this world," said Dempsey.
