Tipperary SHC: Loughmore into semis
September 29, 2008
Munster and Tipperary champions Loughmore-Castleiney qualified for the last-four of the Tipperary SHC following a 2-19 to 2-14 victory over Cappawhite at Semple Stadium.
A goal by county star Micheal Webster seven minutes from the end sealed a hard-fought victory for the holders, who led by 1-8 to 0-6 at half-time thanks to an Eddie Connolly goal. A Paul Fitzgerald goal brought Cappawhite back into contention early in the second half and they had forged ahead before Webster's goal put the champions back in the driving seat.
A brace of injury-time points from full forward Tom Butler helped Clonoulty-Rossmore to a dramatic 1-15 to 0-17 win over Mullinahone. Clonoulty led by 1-8 to 0-5 at half-time with Aidan Butler getting their goal in the 25th minute, but despite Eoin Kelly's excellence from frees, Mullinahone came unstuck in the closing stages.
Toomevara booked their semi-final spot with a comfortable 1-22 to 1-13 victory over Kildangan. North Tipp winners Kildangan were just a point adrift at half-time, but 0-12 from Kenny Dunne saw the Greyhounds to an easy win.
Thurles Sarsfields complete the semi-final line-up after their 3-15 to 2-9 triumph over favourites Drom & Inch. Under 21 star Pa Bourke scored 2-7 in a man of the match performance for the winners.
The semi-final draw has pitted Sarsfields against Clonoulty-Rossmore and Loughmore-Castleiney against Toomevara.
