Donegal SHC: Setanta retain title
September 29, 2008
Kevin Campbell bagged 1-6 as Setanta put Donegal SHC titles back-to-back with a nine-point victory over Burt at Ballybofey.
Setanta..4-7
Burt...1-7
The under 21 star was on top of his game for the winners, and Burt's woe was completed when goalkeeper Patrick McDermott was red-carded for driving the ball at Campbell after deflecting a hopeful 100-metre effort from Ger Dwyer to the net in the second half.
Campbell shot five wides before he was brilliantly set up Michael McGee for a goal in the 22nd minute which signalled a remarkable comeback.
Burt had made a flying start with Ronan McLaughlin's goal helping them to a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after 20 minutes. However, they still held a 1-6 to 1-3 lead at the break.
The decisive score of the second half came from Campbell who fielded superbly on the edge of the square before blasting past McDermott to put the Finn Valley side ahead for the first time in the 40th minute, and further goals from Dwyer and Maxwell sealed the win.
