Antrim SFC: McGourtys have St Gall's in seventh heaven
September 29, 2008
St Gall's 0-15
Lahm Dhearg 0-10
St Gall's continued to establish themselves as Antrim's football kingpins on Sunday afternoon as they landed their seventh senior football championship title in eight years by seeing off Lahm Dhearg with five points in Casement Park.
A domineering second-half performance saw the Milltown side overcome a minimum deficit at half-time to hit seven unanswered points at the restart, which paved the way for eventual victory.
Lamh Dhearg, hoping to cause an upset and collect a first senior crown in 16 years, raced into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead before the champions hit four singles without a reply.
However the underdogs hit points through Brendan Herron, Paddy Cunningham and Conor Murray to make sure they'd be taking in a 0-8 to 0-7 lead in with them at the break.
The Hannahstown side would be stunned after half-time though as Aodhan Gallagher owned the centre of the field in the second-half and that made way for the devastating Kieran McGourty and substitute Conor McGourty to point the way towards a coveted victory for their side.
