Title for Cuchulainns
September 29, 2008
Cuchulainns from the north east of England have won the Yorkshire Intermediate title in their inaugural year, having beaten Huddersfield outfit Bros Pearses 4-13 to 1-08.
Played in fine conditions and refereed superbly by Liam O'Hara, the fitness and large squad of players from Cuchulainns was the defining factor in the game. Bros Pearses took an early lead from a Paddy Carmody point but Cuchulainns replied with two points from Tully and Bohan. After ten minutes, Bros Pearses veteran Paddy Carmody, rattled the back of the Cuchulainns net with a solo run and tremendous finish. Cuchulainns scored two more points before JC Higgins and Dave O'Sullivan put Bros Pearses two points ahead. Another free from JC Higgins saw Bros Pearses leading by 1-04 to 4 points. Four minutes before half time, Robbie Croft, Cuchulainns man of the match, raced through the Bros Pearses defence to score a well taken goal. Both teams went in at half time 1-04 each.
The second half started with both teams scoring two points each in the first ten minutes. Cuchulainns superiority then took over with a goal from Longford man Joe Masterson followed by three quick points by Dublin man Croft. Down native Niall Gallagher fisted the ball into the net to put Cuchulainns in a commanding lead. Two points from Higgins and Lyons of Bros Pearses broke the flow for a short period but Tully, Bohan and Croft kept pushing Cuchulainns further in front. A late goal by Shane Cribbin was the icing on the cake for this well organised and athletic Cuchulainns team. Best players for Bros Pearses were old campaigners Paddy Carmody, Andrew and Noel Kitterick, Sean Connors and JC Higgins. The display by Robbie Croft for Cuchulainns, whose final tally was 1-05, has proved a great asset to the team.
