The GAA can confirm that police are investigating an arson attack which took place this morning (26th of September) at St John's GAA club near Castlewellan, Co. Down. Extensive damage was caused to the club, however, nobody was injured in the blaze. "The GAA strongly condemns the attack on St John's Club and I would ask people to co-operate fully with the relevant authorities," said Nickey Brennan President of the GAA. "Over the last number of years St John's Club has been very involved in cross community activities and I would ask all members of the community to support the club at this time," stated the President. "I also appeal to all GAA members to continue to work with all sections of the community in building better relations." Club Officials, Down County Board and the Ulster Council are working closely with the emergency services.  St. John's Club will be playing in the Junior Championship final this Sunday at Pairc Esler in Newry.
