Ladies final turns into a fiasco
September 25, 2008
The 2008 Mayo Ladies football final, which was due to be played last Sunday turned out to be a disastrous affair as one of the teams participating failed to turn up.
Defending champions Carnacon were due to play Kilmovee at Davitt Park, Ballindine at 11.30 on Sunday last, but the latter failed to show, citing that they had not received five days notice of the fixture as their reason for the refusal to play.
However, the Mayo Ladies county board stressed that the fixture had long been set and that Kilmovee were in the wrong and the match was awarded to Carnacon.
Following an emergency meeting of the county board, Kilmovee were fined ?500 for their conduct and warned about their future behaviour in such circumstances.
