Minor Football Championship Semi-Final:
Pearses 0-9 St Ciaráns 0-11
Our Sean Hogarty sponsored minor football team ended their championship run last Saturday evening when they went down to a very good St. Ciarans team in Ballyforan.
St. Ciarans started the strongest and went into an early 5 points lead. However, the pearses lads stood up to the challenge and went in at half time leading by 6 points to 5 following some great defending from the backs and well worked and converted scores up front, the pick of them being points from Eamon Donoghue and Sean Ryan.
The second half started in a similar vein to the first and St. Ciarans went into a three point lead. Pearses worked well throughout the pitch to pull back the deficit and got to within a point of St. Ciaran,s with 3 minutes to go when Shane Blackweir,s goal chance was well saved by the St. Ciarans keeper. However, Ciarans had the final say and went on to win by 2.
The young Pearses team (12 of the starting 15 are underage next year) can be very proud of their performance on the day and can look forward to the future with optimism. Thanks to all the people that came out to support the team and the best of luck to St. Ciarans in the final.
Pearses: Eoghan Clogher, Stephen McManus, Alan Naughton, Conor Downey, Anthony Butler, Shane Mulvey, Cathal Dolphin, Aaron Fehilly, Eamon Donoghue, Shane Carty, James Kelly, Padraig Corbett, Shane Blackweir, Shane Dolan, Sean Ryan, Niall Tumulty, Jason Clogher, David Donnelan, Mark Whelan, Jason Murray, Colm Egan, Conor Fitzgibbon, Evan Kelly, Michael Kenirans, Thomas Ryan, Liam Haynes, Paddy McCormack, Conor Daly.
Senior Hurling Championship:
Pearses 0-17 Tremane 0-7:
The KLR sponsored Pearses senior hurlers had a good victory over Tremane last Sunday morning in Athleague. The first half was a close affair, but Pearses proved too strong in the second half to pull away comfortable winners in the end, the semi-final against as yet unknown opposition is set for Saturday week.
Junior Girls Camogie Championship Final:
Pearses 2-5 Oran 1-11:
The Finnerty Brothers sponsored Pearses Camogie team just lost out to a vastly experienced Oran side in the county Junior Camogie final last Saturday evening in Athleague. This was a fine performance by a very youthful Pearses team and there was never a puck of the ball between them. With goalkeeper Breda Carty in fine form Pearses led by 3 points at half time but a late Oran goal sealed the result for them. Best for Pearses were Breda Carty, Deirdre Sweeney, Louise Egan and Christina Dolan. The club would like to thank the management team of Padraig Dooley, Patty Ward and Belinda Dooley and also Theresa Kelly for her work with the underage set up.
