Aodh Ruadh club notes
September 23, 2008
SENIOR FOOTBALL
The seniors had good craic down at the Kilmacud Sevens. They got off to a flyer with victory over Senschalstown, but a narrow loss against Emo and defeat to ultimate semi-finalists Kilcoo ended their involvement. It's back to a diet of league action this Saturday when Father Tierney Park hosts the senior clash of Aodh Ruadh and Termon at 5.45pm. That match is preceded by the reserve game at 4.15pm.
GOOD LUCK
A busy weekend coming up for club chairman Terence McShea. On Saturday he will be down in Malahide refereeing at the Ladies sevens, then on Sunday he will don the white coat to umpire at the intermediate Ladies final between Clare and Tipperary. Best wishes to Terence from everyone in the club.
GOLF CLASSIC
There was a great turn out for Aodh Ruadh and Erne Gaels' annual Golf Classic last Wednesday and the teams were blessed with a rare spell of good weather for the day's action. Many thanks to all the teams that took part, the event sponsors and to Bundoran golf club for hosting the event.
ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Senior inter-county players have been lending their support to the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention programme. There is a link to Donegal's contribution at the aodhruadh.org on the left hand side of the home page.
HURLING
The seniors were badly beaten by Burt in the senior championship final in Ballybofey last Sunday. Burt won by 3-25 to 0-9. Ballyshannon got the first score, but thereafter the northerners just took control and eased out comfortable winners in the end.
The annual Aodh O Dalaigh under 12 tournament takes place in Father Tierney park on Sunday 28th. Play begins at 11 am and all supporters are welcome. The under 12 management and players would like to thank Packy McGrath of McGrath's Bouncy Castles for his very generous sponsorship of a set of track suits for the boys it is much appreciated.
On Sunday our second annual skills competition took place in Father Tierney park and 37 young hurlers took part in the event. The winners in each section were - Under 8: first, Liam O'Sullivan; second, Stephen Lee; and third, Padraig Keenaghan. Under 10: first Stephen Anderson; second, Oisin Rooney; and third Patrick Cassidy. Under 12: first, Eddie Lynch; second, Jamie Brennan; and third Colm Kelly. It was a great evenings fun and entertainment for everyone. Thanks also to Paul Gillespie at C&C and Gerry Lally at BWG Foods for their help with the refreshments.
Our under 8 team played Letterkenny Gaels in their final game of the season in Letterkenny on Friday last. The lads finished off the season with a great win, these young hurlers put a great effort in all year.
