UNDER 12 GIRLS TEAM NEWS
On Saturday last St Patricks Under 12 girls with a good supporting crowd travelled to Ballymote to take on Eastern Harps in the Under 12 B Championship Final. Eastern Harps started off the stronger of the 2 teams and within 4 mins had raced in to a 1 goal lead. St Pats started to settle into the game and attack the Harps goal. 7 minutes in Emma Kevany put St Pats on the score board with a well taken free in front of the Harps goal. Aisling Mooney and Aine Martin were both dominant in mid field for Pats, and after 11 mins Aine Martin struck to give Pats a second point after she won a hop ball just inside the Harps half, ran at the Harps defence and put the Ball over the Bar. Harps still held the lead going into the final 5 minutes of the first half when Emma Kevany made a great run through the Harps defence only to see her shot come off the under side of the bar, the ball fell for half forward Aisling Giblin who struck the net for a Pats goal to put the teams on level terms at half time. Second half started with Pats the stronger of the 2 teams. From the throw in Emma Kevany who was a thorn in the side of the Harps defence, won the ball, ran through Harps to score Pats second goal and put Pats firmly in control. Emma followed up minutes later to score a point from a free. 10 minutes into the second half Pats were awarded a 45, Aisling Mooney struck the ball well, Harps blocked the Ball down but Aine Martin won the break and slotted the Ball to the Harps Net, Pats were at this stage totally in control with 1 hand firmly on the victory plaque. With 8 minutes to go the game was put beyond Harps when Emma Kevany took a free from outside the box, only for the Harps defence to misjudge the flight of the ball to give Pats another goal. Harps did get a penalty in the dying minutes but failed to convert. St Pats went on to win on a scoreline of St Pats 4-03, Eastern Harps 1-04. The entire Pats team all gave a great display; our back 6 of Tara Marie Gallager, Cara Avery, Ruth James, Laura Mc Munn, Elyse Lynch & Niamh Connolly were dominant throughout the game keeping their defence tight. The forwards of Aisling Giblin, Michaela Mahon, Emma Kevany, Kelly Mc Munn, Niamh Mc Dermot & Kathleen Mc Namee were always a threat and when given space were all well capable of scoring. In goal Katland Buchanan gave yet another solid performance and has shown great improvement in her position between the posts throughout the season. The subs of Chloe Coen, Niamh Mc Munn & Lesley Kee all had their part to play in ensuring St Pats reached the final. The Club would like to thank Micheal Gallagher, Ann Marie Mc Munn, Lorraine Farrell & Eileen Buchanan for the work they put into the team over the season in preparing them to reach and win the final. The St Pats Panel was: Katland Buchanan, Aisling Mooney, Aine Martin (1-01)Tara Marie Gallagher, Cara Avery, Niamh Mc Dermot, Emma Kevany (2-02)Elyse Lynch, Ruth James, Aisling Giblin(1-00), Michaela Mahon, Laura Mc Munn, Kelley Mc Munn, Lesley Kee, Chloe Coen, Niamh Connolly, Kathleen Mc Namee
