St. Gall's make up for '07 disappointment
September 21, 2008
2007 runners-up St. Gall's (Antrim) went one step further this year by claiming the oneills.com Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Football Sevens title at Pairc de Burca.
The Antrim kingpins got the better (1-11 to 0-13) of Glenullin (Derry) in a tense and exciting decider played out before a big crowd at the south Dublin venue.
St. Gall's were quickest off the blocks and points from Sean Kelly and Kevin Niblock plus a goal from Andrew McClean helped ease them into a five point lead.
Glenullin crept back into the tie with a great point from Eoin Bradley and then two further points in quick succession.
Scores from Kevin and Kieran McGourty stretched the Saints' lead but Eoin, Paddy and Conrad Bradley brought the Derrymen back into contention.
However the Saints held firm and points from Kevin Niblock and Karl Stewart restored their lead to two points before another point from Paddy Bradley made for a nail-biting finish.
